Ping.fm - A social tool I FINALLY use.

Sunday, October 12th, 2008 | Social Networking | No Comments

Hi all! Wow… three posts in one night… I can’t sleep. Anyways, I have finally started using a service I have had for who knows how long… Ping.fm. Ping.fm is a social syndication service, of sorts. It allows you to add social networks within it, and allows you to post to each network individually, or syndicate the same thing to each network. Twitter, Plurk, or Tumblr, MySpace or Facebook, Ping.fm will handle it all, in style. :)

Now, I have had a Ping.fm account for quite a while, at least a bit before they released it on a public beta. Well, I logged in a while ago, and setup some accounts to post to. Well, I saw a friend, Justin Lowery’s (JLowery354) Twitter post today about a new service Ping.fm is offering, and I finally remembered that I had a Ping.fm account, so I logged in. I found networks that I didn’t even know I had! So, I begun adding the social networks I use now, Facebook, etc., seeing as my Twitter was already added.

Now, I think I will be using Ping.fm more often, as I am starting to see its convenience. I have added it to my bookmarks toolbar in Firefox, so I should use it more. :D

If you haven’t checked out Ping.fm, check it out now at http://ping.fm.

Thanks,

~Sam

AceIRC

Sunday, October 12th, 2008 | IRC | No Comments

Hey everyone! I am in a sort-of… blogging mood today, so I figured I would post about one of my favorite IRC networks, AceIRC.

AceIRC is a friendly IRC network with trusted, and reliable staff, reliable servers, and friendly users. AceIRC currently hosts the Datablab tech community, as well as BravoFleet, and PATH. AceIRC is a friendly place to be, and a nice network for all. On Ace, you can find channels such as #Datablab, #Cellist, and #BravoFleet. AceIRC was friendly to me from the first time I connected, and when I became staff, I got to enter the family that is AceIRC. AceIRC has always treated me kindly, as I am sure it will to many users in the future! Connect to us on AceIRC at IRC.AceIRC.org.

You can find me, usually using the nickname Sam, in channels like #Cellist, #Help, #Datablab, #BravoFleet, and many others.

Come visit me, and all of the friendly people here on AceIRC!

Thanks,

~Sam

My top 5 applications

Sunday, October 12th, 2008 | Apps, Software | No Comments

Here are the top five applications that I use every day.

1. Mozilla Firefox
Mozilla Firefox is a powerful web browser for Windows, Mac, and Linux. It offers a plethora of customization options with themes, and plug-ins, not to mention that Firefox is fast. If you do not have Firefox installed, I would recommend installing it immediately! Get it at http://www.firefox.com.

2. mIRC
mIRC is a powerful and light IRC client for Windows. I use it every day to communicate with people all over the world. mIRC–although it is not free, well it kind of is–offers multiple customization options, and a powerful scripting engine. With this, you can make anything from an IRC game (within an IRC bot), to a mIRC Pastebin uploader. mIRC is a very convenient program, and I would highly recommend it to any IRC user that has not tried it yet. Get it at http://mirc.com.

3. Twhirl
Twhirl, is a social client, with the ability to update FriendFeed, Twitter, and a few other networks, although, it is mainly aimed at use with Twitter, which is exactly what I use it for. Twitter is an Adobe Air application, that is light on resources, and can easily update your Twitter statuses, as well as display the statuses of people you follow on Twitter. Twhirl also has multiple account support, allowing you to update multiple Twitter accounts. Twhirl is a free application, available at http://twhirl.org.

4. Digsby
Digsby is multiple things… an IM client, a social updater, an email client, and more. Digsby is a client aimed towards integrating multiple social environments into one. Digsby offers use of many IM platforms–such as Yahoo, and MSN–in one client, as well as social networks (MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, etc.). You can also get your email with Digsby! I, personally, use Digsby for Yahoo, MSN, and Facebook chatting, as well as some social updates, such as Twitter, or my Facebook status. Digsby is a convenient client, in beta. It is free, and you can find it at http://www.digsby.com.

5. FileZilla
FileZilla is an open-source FTP client for Windows, Mac, and the Linux platforms. Since I work on websites daily, I use FileZilla all of the time, I even have it open right now. :) FileZilla is an easy-to-use client, with a simple interface, and no real confusion about it. It is, simply put, straightforward. FileZilla is free, and you may get it for yourself at http://filezilla-project.org.

New Hosting! (yay)

Friday, October 3rd, 2008 | Uncategorized | 1 Comment

We’re still here!

Yes… TheCellist42.com has gotten new hosting, so I can kiss my WordPress.com blog goodbye! Our new hosting is powered by a company owned by a friend. So far, they have been amazing, good speeds, good uptime, among other things. You can see the server info at http://thecellist42.com/info.

Hopefully, this welcome change will be for the better, as it is proving to be already.

Thanks!

Where we’re going, why we’re going, and why we’re running

Monday, September 22nd, 2008 | Uncategorized | 2 Comments

Here’s one for the books. My webhost, Dot Layer, is ending services on October 10th, 2008, and I have no host! So… I have a few options…

1. Move my site to WordPress.com. - Now, I have already setup a blog on WordPress.com, at http://samuelferry.wordpress.com, and I might use that site, because I might not have a host!

2. Purchase hosting. - I may or may not be inclined to begin looking for Webhosting.

3. Have it hosted. - Now, a few friends have offered to host my site for me (like 5), and I might have to go that route, but I am not sure yet.

I do not know at the moment what I am going to do… but I am going to have to find something quick, otherwise I would have a problem.

Any Ideas For Me? Email Sam@TheCellist42.com!

Thanks,

-Sam

An Overdone Topic of a Post

Sunday, August 31st, 2008 | Uncategorized | No Comments

Well Hi Everyone! Today, I am going to write on a topic that is overdone, all of the time. “Blogging about how hard it is to find something to blog about.” Simply said, on some days (for me anyway), it is really difficult to find something to blog about here. Like today… I’ve been surfing the internet all day, and not a single idea on something to say. GAH! I hate it when I can’t think of anything to say. Eventhough this topic is overdone all of the time, I think it is at least, a statement.

That’s all for now!
